Bug Description
Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop
I use CDMA Mobile phone to access internet outside my home. In earlier versions (5.10, 6.06) of Ubuntu I was setting up this modem through "Networking" menu. There was an "activate" button and after clicking on it the system was getting connected to internet by running pppd.
In Ubuntu Edgy the "activate" button has been replaced by a "checkbox" and the manual says that if you check the box the connection gets activated. While this is true for "eth" connections, no connection is established for the "Modem".

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http:// www.ubuntu. com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
