Bug Description

Binary package hint: cupsys-driver-gutenprint

Hello,

I had some trouble with PDF files printed through gv and with some others (with big or lot of pictures) with the default driver (pxlmono) for my printer Samsung ML-1750. I just tried another driver which was in the list for my printer (ljet4) and it seems to work perfectly: it is quicker than the default one and it is able to print every file I tested so far.

So I suggest that ljet4 becomes the default driver for this printer.

Can you try also some other alternatives?

1. Chosse the "gdi" driver

2. Try to compile the "SpliX" driver from source (http://splix.ap2c.org/) and set up the printer with this driver (driver will appear in printer setup tool once it is installed).

For the time being I set the recommended driver on linuxprinting.org to "ljet4", so this bug will get fixed with the next foomatic-db package.

Fixed upstream by changing the the recommended driver for the Samsung ML-1750 to "ljet4".

But please still do the tests which I have suggested. Perhaps one of the drivers for Samsung's printer language (SPL) is better than the PCL drivers (for example "ljet4" does not do 1200 dpi).

I have made fixed Ubuntu packages of foomatic-db now, get the source package files from

http://www.freestandards.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/feisty/foomatic-db/

and the new binary packages from

http://www.freestandards.org/~till/tmp/ubuntu/feisty/foomatic-db/binary/

They should work on both Edgy and Feisty.
