Bug Description

The Fluendo Complete Playback Pack (sold on canonical shop) with the -bad package because it provides gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux; both of these packages contain the file /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstflumpegdemux.so.

The -bad package conflicts and provides gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux, which is the culprit here. It contains a newer version of the plugin but it is named differently, so technically the two could be on the same system if the conflict wasn't in place.

I spoke with one of the maintainers of this package, slomo, and he has been kind enough to remove the Conflicts/Replaces/Provides (in subsequent uploads) for gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux which is causing this inconvenience for users. This patch will fix the problem for natty.

(Note that you need to patch debian/control.in as well, doing that)

This bug was fixed in the package gst-plugins-bad0.10 - 0.10.21-1ubuntu4

---------------
gst-plugins-bad0.10 (0.10.21-1ubuntu4) natty; urgency=low

  * Removed Conflicts/Replaces/Provides for gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux as
    thee packages can now co-exist, and the Conflict prevented certain codec
    packs provided directly by Fluendo from being installed. (LP: #731711)

Many thanks Martin! (and sorry about the .in oversight)

Yes, this affects Maverick and Lucid as well. I'll attach those debdiffs now.

Comment #1 says slomo has uploaded gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux to update it. I don't think this can be right since he doesn't have access to the software centre archive.

Where can we find the gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux source/binary to confirm that this patch to -bad is correct?

Hi Jonathan,

No, he hasn't uploaded the fix - he has agreed to upload future versions (to Debian) without the Conflicts/Replaces/Provides in place as it is no longer necessary. (He is a MOTU though, so does have upload access to Universe where the -bad package resides)

gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux no longer resides in Debian, or Ubuntu after Lucid. You can grab the source from Lucid if you'd like.

I have verified that the demuxer files are no longer named the same and slomo has assured me that none of their symbols are the same anymore either, so in Lucid, the two seem to co-exist fine.

David, please let us know if the packages in -proposed fix the issue for you. I can't test because I don't have Fluendo.
