Bug Description

Currently smokeping doesn't start in dapper if the /var/run/smokeping directory does not exist. See this bug report, which has fixed the bug in fiesty.

I am requesting that this be backported to dapper, since dapper is a LTS release.

Builds and tested in Dapper +1.

Does this bug affect Edgy, too?

Yes, I just tried it on Edgy and it doesn't start there also:

# cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=6.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=edgy
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 6.10"
# /etc/init.d/smokeping start
Starting smokeping: ERROR: /etc/smokeping/config, line 15: Directory '/var/run/smokeping' does not exist

Backports are for shiny new features, not bugfixes. Please get a StableReleaseUpdate (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) done instead.
