Booting to a live session is really slow
From boot screen to the 'Welcome' page (Try/Install): 3 minutes
From the Welcome page to the session: 4 minutes
Total: 7 minutes

Booting directly to the session takes around 4 minutes.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

Using a CD-R, with the natty desktop image dated 2011-03-28:
On my 1.73GHz Celeron, it takes 2 minutes, 45 seconds to get to the Try Ubuntu screen. It takes an addition 1 minute to get a useable desktop.

On my 2.8GHz P4, it takes 2 minutes, 28 seconds to get to the Try Ubuntu screen and an additional 58 seconds to get the desktop.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

Same results with another usb stick.
The system under test is an asus eeepc 1015pe, atom n450 , with 2GB memory.

There were multiple boot speed improvements to Oneiric. Is this still an issue when booting Oneiric on the same hardware?
