Bug Description

Binary package hint: unity

This is observable on a machine that isn't lightning fast: Press Alt+F2, quickly type the full name of a command and press Enter as soon as you are finished typing. Do not look at the dash.

Instead of launching the command you entered, Unity will have launched whatever it was showing before then, because it wasn't finished searching when you pressed Enter. This is rather undesirable. Unity should anticipate that a user typing in the search field and pressing Enter knows what he is looking for. So, if a search is still in progress, Unity should wait until that search is finished before doing its usual response.

it's what happening since the last release AFAIK,
if there is a long search happening:
- enter wait for the end of the search and launch the first entry
- double enter force launching the first entry shown right now.

Isn't what you experience?

Oh, weird. Is this maybe localised to the Alt+F2 lense? I'm encountering it very consistently there, but on closer inspection it's doing what you describe from every other lense :)

No, it's the same for all lenses, there is no additional blackmagic for alt f2 ;)

Maybe if you can get a step by step that you can reliably produced + a small video, (and just write in the report at which second you press enter), that will help to see exactly what happens to you :)

seems there is still an issue even with all merged.
the signal is confirmed to be sent by kamstrup.

Maybe something related that the first result is in another group? (We get first just History, then search and get results, then history)?

This could be considered a mis-feature, slowing down the user. I filed bug 971130 to counter it.
