got a similar problem. I was with 6 tabs open, two of them using javascript (gmail and yahoo! finance page), a google search for "graph visualization java" the main page of jgraph open, another java graph visualization page and the free download page of jgraph, when I clicked on the binary package to download, CPU went high (beat 100%, then back to 70%) and firefox crashed.

I'm also using Edgy Eft always up-to-date, firefox should be the latest released package.

yesterday it happened again.... It's strange, because it didn't happen for
more time. Yesterday i saw the cpu works heavy with only 2 pages of firefox
opened. I leave the notebook for some minutes, and after I found the system
crashed. I think, but I'm not sure, it depends from the kernel's update.

The swap is configured on a 512Mb partition, same amount of RAM in my
machine. But I didn't notice changes in memory or swap use, although
if my memory isn't playing tricks, RAM usage was about 90% and swap
about 10%. I'll keep my eyes open case the bug shows himself again.

Can you tell which pages you have open when this happen ... so we can
construct a reproducible testcase out of this?

Alexander,
it's a while since a last had the issue, but at the time of the
report, all I could remember about the pages was this:
"I was with 6 tabs open, two of them using javascript (gmail and
yahoo! finance page), a google search for "graph visualization java"
the main page of jgraph open, another java graph visualization page
and the free download page of jgraph, when I clicked on the binary
package to download, CPU went high (beat 100%, then back to 70%) and
firefox crashed."

recently I got the bug again, but I was in a hurry and couldn't
collect the trace, but the only thing I can remember is that I was
with gmail and yahoo! finance open, then went to download something,
and got the bug again. I'm tempted to thing that it might have
something to do with heavy js use. I can't tell for sure, but I might
have www.pandora.com open at the 2nd crash.

Sorry for the poor help on this,
Otavio

You have a relatively old system? If so, there are known performance
bugs if you have the download progress window open and you download a
file for which the server does not tell the total size ... maybe you
can confirm this?

Otavio (otaviofp) wrote :

No, I don't think that's the case. The files I downloaded after and
unless my memory is playing some tricks, firefox was able to report
the progress percentage.

About my hardware, it is pretty new, a Pentium D 820 processor. I can
give you the full specs later, I can't recall them right now at work.

It happened to me. Had some tabs open (maybe around 15) and quite normal webpages (no flash or javascript objects). The system started working heavily until it crashed.

I was also trying to update my system at the same time. I don't know if it would have interfered. I attach the crash file generated.
