Bug Description

Clean install of natty in virtualbox (win vista host).

Upgraded to Oneiric. When I restarted I landed in Unity-2d (since I don't have 3d in virtualbox). However, the panel contains only network manager - no session, no time, no calendar, nothing. Makes it very hard to log out, etc.

This might be a libindicator bug, but not sure so I'm filing it against unity-2d for now.

thanks for your report.

This is because gtk2 version of the indicator are not installed.
The workaround is to install them:
$ sudo apt-get install indicator.*gtk2

Thanks for the quick response. I can verify that installing those packages does fix the problem after a reboot.

---------------
unity-2d (3.8.10-0ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  [ Florian Boucault ]
  * debian/unity-2d-launcher.install:
    - do not install launcher/launchermenu.css anylonger as its now shipped as
      part as libunity-2d-private-qml.so using the Qt resource system
  * debian/libunity-2d-private0:
    - move symbolic link to /usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png from
      /usr/share/unity-2d/places/artwork to /usr/share/unity-2d
  * debian/control:
    - add pkg-config as a build dependency
