Thanks for your bug report. The reason for the crash is not really obvious, possibly in GTK. Attaching debug backtrace.

Somebody of the team should forward this upstream.

I had the same problem.
I have installed the NVidia drivers and can only select my desired screen resolution through the nVidia settings app. Then it will be available in the display properties app.
I think there is a conflict between these two apps and that may be a part of the problem.
Also every time I reboot I have to reselect my screen resolution.

Thanks for your bug report. The crash might be a corruption. Could you try to get a valgrind log for it? (you can follow the instructions from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind for that)

Likely a duplicate from bug #87692 which is fixed upstream now
