Have been having this problem since an install of Edgy, which has been updated to Feisty, but occurs (occurred?) on both; manifests when logging into gnome - a bunch of apps, including network monitor and CPU freq monitor all crash.

The crash happens somewhere in gtk-x11. I have no idea why. Which video driver do you use? Do you use accessibility features? Do you use beryl or compiz? Can you take a look at ~/.xsession-errors after logging into GNOME?
