Xubuntu should not call gnome-control-center

The issue is that the bluetooth interface is a control-center panel in GNOME3 so it should depends on it

Particularly annoying when clicking on Menu -> Settings -> Bluetooth gives an error message 'Failed to execute command "gnome-control-center bluetooth". Failed to execute child process "gnome-control-center" (No such file or directory)'. This leaves the user wondering what exactly to do to use bluetooth. Does it mean the bluetooth keyboard/mouse/headset/etc is now not going to work in Xubuntu?

So what should we do here? We could hide the "Settings.." menu entry if control-center is not available, that should even be upstreamable. I'm just not sure how far you can get without the capplet, i. e. whether you can even pair.

The alternative is that the Xubuntu team uses a different bluetooth configuration tool, perhaps blueman or an earlier version of gnome-bt packaged separately?

The upstream goal is to move that code to gnome-control-center itself, they just didn't get to it yet.

It's probably better if Xubuntu finds itself another bluetooth indicator to use, having an old gnome-bluetooth version forked in the archive seems suboptimal, especially if that means somebody will have to port it to GTK3 etc. It would also conflict with the current one on different files and basically mean you can't get xfce and GNOME,Unity working correctly on the same machine since they would depend on conflicting binaries

Gnome-control-center is no longer installed by Xubuntu. This also has blocked installing bluetooth, however, users can install blueman which allows use of bluetooth devices. Since the crash no longer occurs because there is no bluetooth to click on, I am closing the bug report.

Please reopen this issue. Using Blueman is not an option in my and I suspect many others' cases. In my specific use case tethering a phone as a bluetooth DUN modem succeeds in Blueman however the modem never is made available in NetworkManager. Attempts to connect to the DIal up service via Blueman state success, however no connection is made.

Using gnome-bluetooh (after installing gnome-control-center, which is not desired) has no problem connecting to the Bluetooth DUN and providing proper networking.

While this may be a problem with Blueman the end result is that either users use the broken Blueman package (which does not provide full bt functionality) or must install gnome-control-center due to dependencies, and gnome-cc is no longer installed.

Please let me know if this should be a separate bug report. However until Blueman is fixed gnome-bluetooth (or working equivalent) should be installed and available.

Blueman does not work with network manager in Xubuntu 12.10.
