Bug Description

I'm certain someone must have filed this bug but I can't find a duplicate. As of 3.1.90-0ubuntu1 there's a missing icon for search.

I can confirm that Gwibber uses stock_search icon, which was deleted from humanity theme in #832170

Workaround is to install gnome-icon-theme-full

Clint Byrum (clint-fewbar) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Kieran, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gnome-icon-theme into oneiric-proposed, the package will build now and be available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Not only this icon was removed from Humanity, see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/humanity-icon-theme/+bug/832170/comments/19 for complete list.

I can confirm that the gwibber search icon is there so the proposed update resolves this bug.

I can second Dmitry that other icons are also missing, e.g. Disk Utility: Edit File System Label. The other missing icons should be a different bug ticket though.

There are two problems with the fix:

1. Icon is ugly and doesn't look same as others.
2. This icon replaced default search icon in Firefox quick search input (and looks ugly there too).

I'd say that better fix would be to use Firefox icon, if it's available in required size.

@Ilya: Search-related icons were removed from Humanity the day before UI Freeze because they had low contrast with Ambiance's dark toolbar. Now it's too late to change anything in Natty, the proper fix will be introduced during the Precise cycle (along with many other icon changes).

I reported bug 877451 for other icons that should be added to not-in-humanity.txt.

For people looking for a good workaround:

I've installed faenza-icon-theme from ppa:tiheum/equinox
It's great theme, so you could just change to it (with help of gnome-tweak-tool), and probably be happy.
But I still prefer ubuntu-mono, so I did this trick:
Copy /usr/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark to ~/.local/share/icons/ubuntu-mono-dark
Edit index.theme: replace Inherits=Humanity-Dark,gnome,hicolor with Inherits=Faenza-Ambiance,Humanity-Dark,gnome,hicolor
Regenerate cache: gtk-update-icon-cache .
Now I have missing search icon from faenza theme, it fits very nice. Don't know about other icons.

Ok, trick doesn't work, have to work on it :)

Since having an ugly search icon is better than none at all, and addresses the original bug, marking verification-done

As of 24 October 2011, my Gwibber, from a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Oncelot with regular updates, still shows no icon where the search icon should be. Bug persists.
