Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please can you check to see if any errors are being logged to /var/log/samba/log.nmbd when you try this and post them if they are? Set the bug Status back to New when done.

Thanks!

The file is empty since the update to 11.04 (in my case at least)

Sorry for the late response.

You have an invalid smb.conf setting:
ERROR: both 'wins support = true' and 'wins server = <server list>' cannot be set in the smb.conf file. nmbd will abort with this setting.

That being said, Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal reached EOL on April 28, 2011. See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Apologies for the incorrect EOL date for Natty: the correct date is October 28, 2012.
