This is going to be very hard to fix if we can't reproduce it. Maybe a bit of poking around with valgrind is in order.

I suspect my bug report for bug #864693 is a dupe of this bug ... this started happening after an update right after final freeze. Can someone please look at this asap.

I've just run into this, again on Intel hardware, although only once, and I haven't managed to reproduce it. Is just running compiz in Valgrind until it crashes likely to be useful?
