Bug Description

Binary package hint: mouseemu

mouseemu ctl+click for contextual menu does not work on MacBook Pro. Thus far I have noticed that ctl+click does not bring up the menu in the following applications:

 * Gnome Terminal
 * OpenOffice.org 2.1

My current mouseemu config on an up to date feisty install is the default config:

--- snip ---
MID_CLICK="-middle 0 87" # F11 with no modifier
MID_CLICK="-middle 125 272" # Left Apple Key (LEFTMETA) + click
RIGHT_CLICK="-right 0 88" # F12 with no modifier
RIGHT_CLICK="-right 29 272" # Left Ctrl + click
SCROLL="-scroll 56" # Alt key
TYPING_BLOCK="-typing-block 300" # block mouse for 300ms after a keypress
--- snip ---

I confirm this bug for Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 2 fully updated, 64-Bit. So far I have not found a single context menu reacting to ctrl+click, nor to fn+click, nor to alt+click.

Changed in mouseemu:
status: New → Confirmed
description: updated

Still valid for Alpha 4 with all of today's updates.

Still valid here for the Ubuntu 8.10 Release Candidate. THIS MEANS YOU CANNOT USE THE MBP WITHOUT AN EXTERNAL MOUSE!

Why was this marked as Invalid? A bit of more transparency would be appreciated. I still can't get right click emulation with ctrl+click (but it does work if I map it to a single key).

MacBook 2,1 for the record, I can provide more info if needed.

It is marked invalid because you should not be using mouseemu on any intel mac. In fact, if you have it installed, removing it may make things better... use the synaptic configuration to adjust your touchpad behavior. See https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hw-detect/+bug/251830

OK (for the record synaptic doesn't allow you to right click with ctrl+left click, yeah, I know two finger tap)

To be honest, I think I changed it because there was no traffic for such a long time. If you feel that it is a concern, please change the status back, but mouseemu tends to just cause problems with most Intel Mac users.
