Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Launching Rhythmbox in a non GNOME environment results in a bunch of GNOME apps being called, including gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-screensaver. This results in a conflict with xscreensaver which I use by preference. I will attach a "ps" output from before and after.

Thank you for your bug. That's a GNOME applications, it uses programs from that environment, that's not a bug

Sebastien, I urge you to reopen this bug. You cannot describe this as desirable behaviour.

Why should using any GNOME application start-up the whole of GNOME?

Are you really saying that a music player needs to launch a screensaver?

I am so convinced that a music player does NOT need a screensaver to function I have filed an upstream bug for this. Until this is fixed Rhythmbox is unusable outside of GNOME.

Thank you forwarding it upstream, that's the right place for that. Note that rhythmbox probably doesn't start gnome-screensaver, it might use gnome-settings-daemon which is running other programs then
