Bug Description

Binary package hint: kde-systemsettings

All other options are grayed except 'SMB shared printer (Windows)' and 'Other printer type'. That is, I cannot add, for example, a Network printer. This works on my Edgy machine, but not on a Feisty install.

In my opinion this problem is not a kde-systemsettings bug.
I have tried to test the access on printers through /dev/lp0.
This is the result:
maini@maini-desktop:~$ cat test.txt > /dev/lp0
bash: /dev/lp0: Permesso negato
maini@maini-desktop:~$ sudo cat test.txt > /dev/lp0
bash: /dev/lp0: Permesso negato
maini@maini-desktop:~$ sudo -s
Password:
root@maini-desktop:~# cat test.txt > /dev/lp0

I never have changed permissions of /dev/lp0. Printers doesn't work also with root user. It's a very strange behaviour that password is not required when I use sudo.
Do you think that latest kernel update could be involved? Problem was happened after this.

Kernel seems not involved.
I have tried the configuration through http://localhost:631/admin and cups doesn't recognize backend as /dev/lp0. Only Samba or bluetooth printer could be enabled.
So I think it is a cups problem.
I attach the file /var/log/cups/error.log with full debug information.

Now I can also add TCP/IP printers, so I consider this fixed for me.
