Bug Description

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

When attempting to set default applications for web browser and e-mail clients via
System Settings->Default Applications, the settings selected and save do not go into effect (ie. only the system defaults work). Rebooting has no effect either on the application of the newly set default applications.

The environment is Kubuntu 6.10

Which web browser/mail clients were you trying to set to be the defaults?

Note: Thunderbird and Firefox do not care about the "default application".
Is the "default application" used when you klick on a link within a KDE applicantion (like KMail, Konversation or Konqueror)?

I assumed (wrongly) that the default applications was setting the defaults universally. I mainly wanted to initiate Firefox on Thunderbird e-mail links.

I will pursue this fix within Thunderbird.

From my perspective, this bug report can be closed due to a misunderstanding on my part about what consitutes a default application.

As a side note, under Ubuntu 6.06, in Thunderbird all of my links went to Firefox when Firefox was identified as the default browser. In Kubuntu 6.10 with Firefox 2.0.0.2, the button to check whether Firefox was the default browser is inoperative (not inactive.. just doesn't do anything). This is probably scope creep from my original bug report.
