Bug Description

Hi,

I use ubuntu 7.04 Feisty fawn. Today (02 March 2007) I've been noticed for a dist-upgrade. I've then dist-upgraded my box (acre aspire 5610 laptop).
After downloading, I restarted my computer (still as suggested).
After normal reboot, X failed with BSOXD (Blue ScreenOf X Death) (as it did with older ubuntu distributions - dapper..etc). It seems (not sure) that it comes from a nvidia package dependency issue.
In my /var/log/dpkg.log file I noticed that "nvidia-glx" has been updated but not "linux-restricted-modules".
I needed to :
- edit xorg.conf to turn "nvidia" to "nv"
- reboot computer
- update nvidia-restricted-modules
- nvidia-glx
- restart gdm

and Voilà...

But it is not the first time it happens and I think lots of users affected by this bug (all nvidia users) would sadly turn off the linux experience forever...

Cheers,

Pierre

you need to make sure you have the linux-kernel metapackages installed.. ie. linux-image-generic which depends on linux-restricted-modules-generic.
