Bug Description

Binary package hint: audacity

Ubuntu Feisty, up-to-date
Linux 2.6.20-9-generic #2 SMP

Whenever I close the Audacity GUI, everything seems to close as expected, except that I can see "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" in the terminal I launched Audacity from.
Running it under GDB gives this information:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

This backtrace does not look very interesting, there is no debugging symbols, I looked for a dev package in Synaptic but could not find one. I am available for more tests if someone wants.

By the way, I tried to use -dbgsym debug symbols as described on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash but it does not work, because people.ubuntu.com is down. Is it a temporary problem with the server, or is this howto outdated ?

I tried to reproduce the bug under Valgrind, log attached.
When I exit Audacity, it does not coredumps as usual, instead I don't get the prompt back, I had to type CTRL+C.

Just to make sure, I just retried without Valgrind, I get the usual:
$ audacity
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
$

I hope anyone can get something out of this Valgrind log.

Nicolas_Raoul (nicolas-raoul) wrote : How to reproduce

Just in case it was not clear enough, here are the easy steps to reproduce the crash on an up-to-date Feisty running Gnome:

1) Open a terminal
2) Type: audacity
3) Type enter
4) A GUI appears
5) In the GUI, click on "File" and "Exit"
6) Notice the "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" that appeared in the terminal

Step 5 may be replaced with clicking on the window-bar's "X" to close the window.

Nicolas.

This has an impressive number of duplicates, and is probably the same as bug #87434.

So, is anyone working to fix this, and maybe at the same time use a wxWidgets version that depends on GTK2 instead of GTK1?

Could someone please retest this against audacity 1.3 built against wxwidgets2.6 (and GTK2+). I believe it has been fixed by the recent upgrade.

OK.

I don't have now internet on that computer, so I can't
give more info. But if this same problem than some
others perhaps it's all ready fixed. :)

Thaks for our efforts anyway!
