Also, #210608 seems to be related, however seems not to be readable by the world for whatever reason. From the gvfs Changelog:

gvfs (0.2.3-0ubuntu2) hardy; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/90_from_svn_fix_unlock_crasher.patch:
    - change from svn to fix a potential applications crasher (lp: #189700)
  * debian/patches/91_from_redhat_fix_fuse_64bit_issue.patch:
    - change from redhat, fix a fuse backend issue on 64 bit architectures
      (lp: #210608)

manually compiling 1.9 from source (after a tip from the fuse
developers) the bug disappeared. so it seems that Ubuntu just needs to
update its sources.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Lucid Lynx. It won't be fixed in previous versions of Ubuntu because the package doesn't fit the requirements for backporting. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports for more information.

Lucid Lynx has version 2.2-1
