Bug Description

When using the HUD with nautilus file manager in focus, when i begin to type network, i saw Go -> network in the search results, but if I continue to type the word "network", when the whole word has been entered, no results are showing. I would expect to see Go -> network still in the search results.

Interesting. What would help the most is if we could turn this into a test case. The test cases that we need is a set of menus, some search strings, and what the right answer should be for each of those. For instance:

  File > New
  File > Open
  File > Close

Search for:

   Op -> #2
   op -> #2
   os -> #3

If you could put your issue in that manner we should be able to add it to the tunning suite that we have for the HUD search. Thanks!

this is more general than tuning specific strings, it behaves the same for pretty much any word, if you type all but the last letter it finds it, if you type the full word (or sometimes when you hit space after the word) it forgets it. Try in Libreoffice with "sav" vs "save" or thunderbird with "dele" vs "delet" or "delete".

Agreed, it does seem to be any full word (or at least any I've tried).

The first one I tried (because I know it's got a lot of complex menus) was inkscape.

Try searching for "layers".

"lay" gets you some matches (only 3 out of 5 seem to be actually relevant).

Complete the word as "layers" and the results go completely blank.

I get matchings for misspelled words in nautilus while the correct ones don't show.

Try:
select all

This happens:
select all -> no results
select aal -> i get the correct menu item Edit -> Select all

I'm attaching screenshots with two more examples. I'm seeing the same thing. While typing a few related entries show up, along with a lot of unrelated entries, but after typing the last letter all related entries disappear and it *only* shows unrelated entries.

The first example is from Firefox, where typing "book" only shows entries about Bluetooth and nothing about bookmarks. Note that I'm not typing "bookmark", so this is not just about typing full words!

The second example is from Inkscape, where typing "zoom" only shows two irrelevant entries from the Help menu.

This should be fixed with this commit: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ted/indicator-appmenu/hud/revision/172 It's in the lastest packages pushed to the PPA.

It's working *slightly* better now, but still not what I'm seeing in the video or think would actually be useful. I attach a screenshot showing what happens when you type "bookmark" in Firefox. It only shows one entry: "Bookmarks", which does nothing when you select it.

However, if I manually open and close the Bookmarks menu first, and *then* use the HUD to type "bookmark", I do get the relevant entries from the Bookmarks menu! So it looks like the HUD has to be shown where everything is first, which would be very cumbersome (especially since it seems to forget this once you close the program. When I restart Firefox it reverts to just showing "Bookmarks").

Should I file a new bug for this?
