Bug Description

[Impact]

Context menus disappear for Qt applications.

[Test Case]

1. Start Clementine
2. Minimize / Maximize Clementine multiple times (not close)
3. Try right click

What is the expected output?

The right click menu appers within Clementine.

What do you see instead?

Nothing. Right click = left click

[Regression Potential]

Code touches minimized windows behavior, but regression potential should be low, and code has been living in Ubuntu 12.10.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/929712/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

I managed to narrow it down to Unity being the main cause of the issue. Compiz with Gnome Classic is not affected. The problem exists only when Unity plugin is active in Compiz.

I believe this problem may not be exactly the same as the one it is set to duplicate. This involves context (right-click) menus, not global menu, in fact affected applications may not even use global menu at all (e.g. Skype or QtCreator from official QtSDK). Also the fix released for #775278 does not correct anything reported here and I didn't notice the probem described in #775278 myself as I don't usually minimize apps to tray.

I reported 872977 (it's about broken QComboBox) already 6 months ago and now its marked as a duplicate of this context menu bug. However, now that I tried I can see the context menus in Qt Creator after minimizing it, but for example the build target selection in the lower left corner gets broken.

klakier (insane-vx) wrote :

@ Jussi: Try the context menu in the file list on the left, clicking the same file or folder. Context menu in the text editor of Qt Creator seems somehow unaffected - maybe it is recreated every time. I also noticed that the bug affects dropdown lists, just completely forgot to mention it :/

Chris Halse Rogers (raof) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello klakier, or anyone else affected,

Accepted unity into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/5.18.0-0ubuntu1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!
