Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

Looking at precise and lucid versions, it looks like the dovecot-common ufw rules were shipped by older ufw-common packages, whereas newer packages ship it in dovecot-core.

Changed in dovecot (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Confirmed

I am seeing this here as well. After seeing the comment by Serge above, I took a look at this. Here is what I did, and I propose that anyone who is experiencing this problem should probably do the same:

rm /etc/ufw/applications.d/dovecot-common

The reason is that you already have these rules in the dovecot-core file, so you are simply eliminating the old duplicate by doing this. I suspect that in my case this arose because the machine in question was upgraded from a Lucid installation to Precise, so would have had an older package in place from before.

Hi,
I'm clearing old dovecot bugs before the merge to check which to consider fixing on the merge.
This one here is rather outdated and the last reports mentioned it working.
I rechecked and still the only ones that can be affected are people upgrading from when dovecot-common was a thing.

I think these days we can assume no one upgrades from that old versions anymore.
He has hit the issue in the past (e.g. when going to 12.04) and fixed it or no more hits it.
We could have considered an rm_conffile back then, but this isn't feasible now anymore.

Setting the status to invalid (from todays POV).

Changed in dovecot (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → Invalid

Old post mentions removing dovecot-common.

I noticed this today when processing triggers for ufw(0.35-5):

WARN: Duplicate profile 'Dovecot IMAP', using last found
WARN: Duplicate profile 'Dovecot Secure IMAP', using last found
WARN: Duplicate profile 'Dovecot POP3', using last found
WARN: Duplicate profile 'Dovecot Secure POP3', using last found

/etc/ufw/applications.d/ :

...
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 639 Apr 5 2016 dovecot-core
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 319 Jun 19 01:03 dovecot-imapd
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 319 Jun 19 01:03 dovecot-pop3d
...

I do not see a './dovecot-common' as I mentioned.
I assume I should probably remove 'dovecot-imapd' & 'dovecot-popd'?

I removed dovecot-core (I think it's more or less the same, they are duplicated) because it was older than dovecot-imapd...

hello there! I'm from the future! almost 5 years from the last post, and almos 10 from the first.
And yes, I ran into the same issue, somehow, somewhere, my APT started shouting the duplicate profile error.

Thanks @Romano for the fix
