Bug Description

Binary package hint: k3b

Bring up k3b to make a data CD disc.

Upon building up the data files to go to the disc then select
the "burn" option. K3b returns an error with the following message:

cdrecord returned an unknown error (code 255)
Unknown error 255
If you are running an unpatched cdrecord version...
...and this error also occurs with high quality media...
...and the k3b FAQ does not help you...
...please include the debugging output in your problem report.

In adept I note that you have replaced cdrecord with whodim.
If you are going to do this, please make sure that k3b works
with it as a number of us I am sure are locked into k3b for
burning CDs and DVDs.

Thanks in advance,

Went back and tried k3b as root and it works as advertised.
Sorry about that. I do believe that k3b should run as a regular
user and be allowed access to the CD and DVD devices if they
are not busy....... IMHO, but what do I know?

TIA

It should work now. Can you still reproduce the problem with feisty/gutsy?

Changed in k3b:
status: New → Incomplete

Mario,

As discussed in #kubuntu-devel this now works in Gutsy. Should this be marked Fix Released?

thanks,
Rich

For DVDs, I notice it happens with DVD-RW disks but not with DVD+RW disks.

I get this error with kubuntu 10.04 and k3b.
I've tried running as root and the still get the same error.
I can't continue burning multisessions DVD-Rs that I created with the version of k3b found in kubuntu 8.04.
I've tried burning at auto, 12x, 8x, etc.
