Bug Description

Whenever I press anything on the grooveshark version of Nuvola player, nothing changes on the screen, even if I refresh. The only way to get it to work is to close the window and reopen it. It works normally on friends' computers.

GtkLauncher (GTK2) with Google Play

Google Play Music page is only partially rendered (see attached screenshot of GtkLauncher) if Flash plugin is installed (version 11.1.102). It affects only GTK+ 2 port (GTK+ 3 port works fine). I've tried version 1.7.91 from Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 1 and nightly r111120 tarball (with ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-gtk=2.0 --enable-introspection), the bug is reproducible with both versions on my 64bit machine. This issue was not present in version 1.6.3.

I am using Nuvola Player 1.0.3. Distribution is Ubuntu 12.04 beta (latest build) 64-bit. I installed Nuvola using the Stable ppa.

The debug output was me:
1) Opening it using nuvolaplayer --output
2) Closing it to restore the screen
3) Reopening it
4) Pressing restore songs
5) Closing it so the songs are restored
6) Reopening it to play the songs (with no success, I ended up using the media buttons on my keyboard)....

The output is below.

The Flash version is 11.1 r102.

The library versions (gotten by running the last command from the page above) are:

 libgtk2.0-0 libglib2.0-0
libglib2.0-0 2.31.20-0ubuntu3
libgtk2.0-0 2.24.10-0ubuntu5
libsoup2.4-1 2.37.91-1
libwebkitgtk-1.0-0 1.7.91-0ubuntu1

Let me know if there is anything else I can do. :)

Hello,

The bug is back. The contents do not update anymore. In addition, it
does not play any music, but fast-forwards through it at 3-4 seconds
per second without emitting any sound.

The bug is not specific to Google Play, it also affects Grooveshark (http://grooveshark.com) (and maybe other websites using flash).

Reproducibility also depends on size of the window (less reproducible with a default window size, more reproducible if window is maximized before entering affected website).

I'm increasing priority according to Bug Reporting Guidelines ("If you know the bug is a regression, ie. something is wrong which wasn't wrong in previous versions of WebKit, you can set this to P1.").

Nuvola Player 1.0.5 was released. It contains modified workaround for bug[1][2] present in the latest stable WebKitGTK release (1.8) that causes some Flash-dependent pages are not rendered properly, do not update and are unresponsive to user actions. Unfortunately, this bug affects also Google Play, Grooveshark and Pandora Radio and makes them unusable in Nuvola Player. Thanks to Alin Andrei, I have discovered the bug doesn’t appear if the window has certain “magic” size.

The latest stable Nuvola Player release 1.0.5 contains simple workaround that sets window size to magic values that worked during my tests. However, these values may be dependent on user settings, e.g. GTK theme, window manager, font sizes, whatever. If the default workaround does not work for you, you can try to set your own magic values:

1) Quit Nuvola Player (hiding the window is not enough).
2) Open or create file .config/nuvolaplayer/ui_state.conf
3) Append following lines:
bug958154_window_w = 1010
bug958154_window_h = 534
5) Replace “1010” with your magic window width and “534” with your magic window height.
4) Save the file
5) Launch Nuvola Player
6) If the values don’t work, go to 1.

The workaround has not been included in the trunk branch/unstable builds of Nuvola Player 1.1 yet, but is on the list of work items[3].

If you are affected by that bug, I encourage you to add some “heat” to the Ubuntu bug[2] or upstream bug[1].

Gecko would require a lot of work, so it's out of the question.

The warning is always show if WebKitGTK 1.7 or 1.8 is detected and

Nuvola Player contains partial workaround that sometimes works,
sometimes not. Precise still contains buggy libwebkitgtk 1.8.

Well, this doesn't sound like "absolutely no more problems", it's a

Is it possible to have the program point to the mobile versions of each of these websites if it detects a problem with loading?

It might be a backup plan if GTK+ 3 port of Nuvola Player fails to
solve the issue.

To solve the issue you can turn on HTML5 lab feature.

One thing to note, rdio and I think groove shark dont have mobile versions, they just tell you to download the app.
