Bug Description

using a fujitsu lifebook a3040 with AMD Turion 64 MT37 (2 GHz) , 512 MB DDR SDRAM, ATI Radeon Xpress 200M.

fresh install of ubuntu 7.04 beta

I can do a terminal failsafe login, but if i try gnome or failsafe gnome it just sits. waited over 30min one time and nothing.

tried "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop" and it told me it was already up-to-date

i have the same problem upon fresh installation on my notebook (config below).
i need to upgrade with apt-get upgrade, then it works.
but later i upgrade again to kernel 2.6.16 (suggested upgrade!!), the same problem happened again.
good thing is the boot image of 2.6.15 is still on GRUB and i can choose to boot with this version. gnome works fine on 2.6.15.

notebook config:
compaq presario r3000, P4 2.4GHz, 440MB RAM
