Bug Description
I have an onboard network interface, described by lspci as: "Ethernet controller: Sundance Technology Inc / IC Plus Corp IC Plus IP1000 Family Gigabit Ethernet (rev 41)", and use the 'ipg' kernel module (in ubuntu/net/ipg/ inside ubuntu kernel tree). The normal network functionality seems ok, but I found out that avahi-discover wasn't showing other people published services. Looking in Google I also found out that some drivers have buggy support for local multicast as used by Zeroconf.
The workaround is adding to eth0 'stanza' in /etc/network/
I recently upgraded to Feisty, but the problem (not seeing other people's services) was in my old Edgy, too.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Now that the 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon release of Ubuntu is out, we were wondering if you can still reproduce this issue. Could you please download and try the new version of Ubuntu from http:// www.ubuntu. com/getubuntu/ download and report back your results. If the issue is still present in the new release, please attach the following information:
* uname -a > uname-a.log signature > version.log
* cat /proc/version_
* dmesg > dmesg.log
* sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log
Please be sure to attach each file as a separate attachment. For more information regarding the kernel team bug policy, please refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelTeamB ugPolicies . Thanks again and we appreciate your help and feedback.
