Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.17-10-generic

I have a DWL-G520 Atheros (madwifi) card which worked flawlessly in Dapper. In Edgy, the card will stop working after a while.

Using the Network Monitor applet, I can tell that the card disconnects from the network every 3 to 10 seconds. It then reconnects after about a 1/2 second delay. This isn't a problem with the applet itself, I can tell that it actually disconnects in Firefox, Gaim, etc.

I opened GNOME System Monitor to check the network settings. With all internet applications closed, there is a constant stream of ~1 KB/s being recieved, and about 0.1 KB/s being sent, even while the card disconnects from the network.

Other problems arise from this also. The card may also just stop working for a few minutes if it disconnects too often. Running `modprobe ath_pci` and `depmod` again fixes the problem, until it decides to disconnect and stop working again.

I have Identical issues as O.P. with very similar card
DWL510 Worked great in dapper but getting the frequent disconnects/reconnects with Edgy..

 Edgy show it as
00:10.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005G 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
While Dapper shows 00:10.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. unknown (rev 01)

Yes!
I have same problem on my thinkpad t42p

Did not have this issue on dapper. Looks like it has popped up in edgy.

This is very annoying when downloading streaming media or browsing AJAX based websites.

Seems to be nearly the same for me:

On my T40, my network also disconnects every 2 or 3 seconds since I installed edgy (on a free new partition). I had no problem with dapper/hoary/breezy.

dmesg shows repeated reconnections.

When I configured my interface to use dhcp, I cannot even connect at all.
With static IP, I can hardly connect (several seconds to ping google.com).

Still doesn't work in Feisty, just tested it.

Apparently this is a problem with the madwifi-ng drivers.
