Bug Description

See http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2005/11/msg00358.html

That's not me, but I have exactly the same bug on my Ubuntu 6.06/AMD64 with latest updates.

Do you need more information? This is a really annoying bug.

Can I supply more information? This bug is really very annoying because it crashes my X regularly (about once per day). Yesterday I didn't reboot immediately and it wrote my root partition full with 8 GB of logs ("Freeing resource id=....... which isn't there."). I don't think this bug is unconfirmed because I'm not the only one who has this problem (see the URL).

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. We need info about the hardware you use. What is video card, motherboard, etc you are using. Certain ATI cards have this kinda issue. But we can be sure only if you provide your hardware details.

I have exactly the same problem. It happens to me several times a day. If I quickly press shift-alt-sysrq-k, I am logged out. I can then login again and everything is fine, except that the files /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old and /var/log/gdm/:0.log.1 are several hundred MB long, filled with lines like this:

Freeing resource id=426011F7 which isn't there.

I've attached the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file (but of course one before a crash, so it is not huge). I have an nvidia card (see the log file), so it is not an ATI issue.

I'll be happy to provide any other information that may be needed to fix this bug. Thanks!

I can confirm now that the crash happens not only when I close a window, but also when I close a tab in Firefox. This has happened to me at least twice. The system freezes (the mouse does move, but with delays) and the log files start growing very quickly. shift-alt-sysrq-k immediately logs me out and I can log in again without rebooting.

This bug is rather serious and I will probably have to install the 32-bit version of Ubuntu soon, as the AMD64 version is not very usable in this state.

This package has become obsolete so we're closing out the bug report as WONTFIX.
Thanks for reporting it though!
