after edgy is installed can you please attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and the output of lspci. It looks like the bus ID number is wrong for the video card.

Please change BusID PCI:0:2:1 with BusID PCI:00:02:0 and restart X. The line should look simular to BusID "PCI:0:02:0". see if that helps. also sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg should do that part for you. it should find the correct BusID.

   It is strange. I do not have BusID PCI:0:2:1 so I cannot change it. In /etc/X11/xorg.conf I had:

Section "Device"
 Identifier "Intel Corporation Mobile Integrated Graphics Controller"
 Driver "i810"
 BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

and I still have that after running "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg".
   However, the error is always
(WW) I810: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found
   What is the relation between PCI:0:2:0 and PCI:0:2:1?

   Hello.
   I would not like to seem impatient, but any help would be appreciated in resolving this issue. I have not been able to find a solution on my own.
   Thanks in advance.

The same issue still exists with the feisty installer on Dell D620, though here after xserver crashes the machine just freezes at
* Running script (/etc/rc.local)

It does not switch to a terminal and none of the consoles work. So basically cannot install feisty on a Dell Latitude D620

Could you please recheck it with Gutsy Final Live CD? In Gutsy i810 driver is deprecated and intel driver is used instead.
