Eina 0.14.0

Written for Eina by L.Lopez on 2011-12-17

Before the announcement, I want to give thanks to everyone who has been testing Eina before this release, to people who has been working on new artwork, to those who has packaged Eina for different distributions, to bug reporters, to translators and to everyone who has dedicated 5 minutes to Eina. Thank to all.

Now, the announcement:

Eina 0.14.0 has been released.

Tarball can be found at:
https://launchpad.net/eina/+download

Ubuntu oneiric (11.10) package are available at:
https://launchpad.net/~eina/+archive/ppa

This release consolidates the gtk -3 branch of Eina, with support for gtk3.2 and gtk3.0. This release stabilizes a lot of things and gives developers a true python environment to write plugins quickly (some very cool are already out there[1]).

A lot of work has been put to fix UI and usability bugs.

For developers, almost all useful API functions are documented now, at least with a short description. Anyone interested can try the 'python console' plugin and start testing ideas.

Some highlights from news:
  * Support for gtk-3.2 with -DDISABLE_DEPRECATED
  * Better HIG compliance for dialogues and modal windows
  * Art metadata is handled in liblomo: now more sophisticated interfaces can build on top of liblomo
  * liblomo depends on libgel
  * Playlist has gained built-in search option (try control f)
  * Dark theme is used by default
  * Updated translations
  * More documentation and gobject-introspection coverage

Spread the word.
I think Eina is now a very powerful, extensible and usable (simple) player. Tell to your friends, write an article on your blog, tweet about it, make and screencast. Help me to spread the word about Eina.

Future plans:
  * Continue stabilization of Eina's core.
  * Write some very cool plugins around it.
  * Reduce memory footprint.
  * Write an importer plugin and rewrite muine and adb plugins to make Eina a lightweight library player (just as an alternative, Eina will be always a simple player ;))

Eina 0.10.0 (La primavera) Released

Written for Eina by L.Lopez on 2011-06-12

This is the first release based on gtk3 and some bugs, regressions and missing features are expected.

There are no big features since last release but a lot of code has been reviewed and cleaned, making this release more stable (I hope...)

System requirements are: gtk3, gstreamer0.10 (with plugins for different audio formats), curl, vala (only if you compile yourself the code). Optionally you can also use sqlite3, clutter-gtk, libnotify and libindicate to activate some plugins. At least Ubuntu 11.04 and Fedora 15 include all those packages.

Packages for Ubuntu 11.04 are also available on Eina's PPA[2]

You can report bugs at launchpad[3]

Bye!
