0.4.1: Indicator, Notifications and a PPA!

Written for Ejecter by Federico Pelloni on 2011-01-26

Ejecter 0.4.1 has been released. It sports two major new features: ejecter is now an indicator (and this makes it consistent with the ubuntu desktop), and now shows a notification balloon when you can detach your device.

Also, for users on Ubuntu 10.10 willing to have this new version (and to have every future update), I've set up a PPA. Install ejecter with:
$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fredp/ppa
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ejecter

Ejecter 0.3.1 released!

Written for Ejecter by Federico Pelloni on 2009-10-04

Small updates to 0.3.0: added icons matching Humanity look (Ubuntu Karmic new icon theme), fixed translator credits links.
Shortly following 0.3.0, this is a new Karmic-compatible release. This has been tested only on Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) beta, meaning that it quite certainly won't compile on Jaunty or other distributions featuring similar software versions.
Feedback and testing on newer distros is greatly appreciated.

To build you need:
- gtk+ >= 2.14 (with -dev packages on distributions that provide them)
- libgdu (from gnome-disk-utility)
- vala 0.7
- python
(to build on Ubuntu you need development packages as libglib2.0-dev, libgtk2.0-dev, libgdu-dev)

To install just do:
$ ./waf configure --prefix=/usr
$ ./waf
$ sudo ./waf install

To uninstall:
$ sudo ./waf uninstall

Ejecter 0.3.0 released!

Written for Ejecter by Federico Pelloni on 2009-10-01

New Karmic-compatible release. Dropped Hal for libgdu, many bugs fixed and translations updated.
Backwards-compatibility as seen in previous releases has been dropped, and this has been tested only on Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) alpha 6 and later. This means that it quite certainly won't compile on Jaunty or other distributions featuring similar software versions.
Feedback and testing on newer distros is greatly appreciated.

Download it from here: http://launchpad.net/ejecter/1.0/0.3.0

Ejecter is a simple menu that sits in the system notification area, providing you a quick way to unmount external peripherals such as usb pendrives, cd/dvd, external hard disks and so.
It needs Gtk, libgdu (from gnome-disk-utility), plus Vala and Python only at compile-time.
Install it with
  ./waf configure --prefix=/usr
  ./waf
  sudo ./waf install

Run it from the command-line with "ejecter" or add it to startup applications:
it will sleep behind the scenes and show an icon in the system tray when one or more devices are connected to your computer.

Ejecter 0.2.1 released!

Written for Ejecter by Federico Pelloni on 2009-02-18

Some small tweaks. Main new feature is scrolling support when device list would exceed screen size, however probably most people will never see this. Besides we have some improvements to the device handling code and, for developers or debugging, some more or better debug messages where put in.

Ejecter available in Jaunty repository!

Written for Ejecter by Federico Pelloni on 2009-02-14

Thanks to Devid Antonio Filoni the Ejecter package has been added to Jaunty repository: thus, if you are using this version of Ubuntu, to install Ejecter you only need a "sudo apt-get install ejecter" on the command-line or either install it from Synaptic. Next time you will log in Ejecter will start automatically.
Once I fixed some minor things and released 0.2.1 I'll ask for it to be included also in intrepid-backports, so more people can install this easily.
