The Multi-level Authoring Guideline (MAG) concepts are based on the multi-level development (MLHIM) concept using Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) standards to create a generic reference model that can be exploited for making guidelines computable; especially clinical guidelines.

Guidelines are workflow instructions designed for specific clinical situations. These situations are more often than not specific to the patient condition, the environment and the patient's and the physician's observations and perspective.
