Sparkle is a Cocoa framework that enables Mac developers to add instant self-update functionality to their software.

It uses appcasts to keep track of release histories and supports half a dozen distribution formats. Sparkle probably does more than you care about for your software updates, but if you like, it can display release notes, check DSA signatures, submit user demographics, and keep your software up to date without any user interaction.
