Bug Description

I tried the 6.06Beta live-version of Ubuntu and of kubuntu on my apple G5.

-For Kubuntu:
(i) minor bug (?): during the load of modules, "starting pbbuttonsd" fails,
(ii) after the screen of kde "initializing peripherals" the screen becomes blue and the computer freezes (no mouse, fan runniçng fast).

- For Ubuntu :
(i) minor (?) bug: during the load of modules, the last one (I did not have time to read it) fails,
(ii) after the load of modules the brown screen freezes after a few secondes. The fan goes fast the mouse is bloced and I had to switch off the computer.

Best regards.

I think this could be a duplicate of bug #23445. Please try this workaround:

* boot using "Linux single" so gdm is not started
* do not use tab on the console
* disable sound in gdm by setting

SoundProgram=/bin/true
SoundOnLogin=false

In /etc/gdm/gdm.conf

To get rid of the pbbuttonsd error look at bug #47419 (patch #2).

Did the information on the previous comment help solve this problem? Does it still exist on Edgy final?

No it did not help as I was with kubuntu. However the bug was precisely this one. And the analoguous of what was explained by Niels Kristian Bech Jensen did the job.

This bug does not exist in the release candidate of October 19th 2006.

But others....

Thanks for that info. If it's still a problem in Edgy, please continue discussion at bug 23445
