Bug Description

Shouldn't these be somehow associated with synaptic, or maybe a little gubbins
that can get root and install them?

Synaptic/Kynaptic integration is the ideal solution, but here are easier
implementations until then:
For Nautilus, see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=33584 for a package
menu script.
For Konqueror, see http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=23981 for a
package service menu.

Both should be made into deb files to be included in Breezy (I'm attempting to
package my KDE version now).

Kubuntu/KDE sister bug filed at https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11436
Scratch the deb file idea, they should be patched into main

Thanks for your additional comment.

How do those solutions work technically? If they just call "dpkg -i" and then
"apt-get install -f" then this is a bit hackish and it shouldn't enter main.

dpkg --unpack $deb; apt-get install -f

is a little _less_ hackish ;)

With the arrival of gdebi, this problem will be solved :)

Yes, please install the 'gdebi' package (if you run dapper) and right-click on
the deb. That should bring up a menu with "Package Installer". Let me know if it
works for you (the installing of debs etc).

Cheers,
 Michael

gdebi works here. As soon as ubuntu-desktop depends on gdebi, this bug can be closed, IMHO.

dennis@mirage:~$ apt-cache rdepends gdebi
gdebi
Reverse Depends:
  xubuntu-desktop
  ubuntu-desktop
  edubuntu-desktop
