I have upgraded to Lubuntu 13.04 on a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427. Cpufreqd crashes on system start up only. I then have to open the task manager, track the PID of the "running" cpufreqd, and kill it in the terminal. Once the process is killed, I just start go to my cpufreqd icon on the bottom right bar and select performance. It starts up again, but does not crash. The crash report, it states: ProblemType: Crash Architecture: i386 CrashCounter: 1 Date: Fri May 3 02:47:48 2013 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 ExecutablePath: /usr/sbin/cpufreqd ExecutableTimestamp: 1364500746 ProcCmdline: /usr/sbin/cpufreqd -f /etc/cpufreqd.conf ProcCwd: / ProcEnviron: TERM=linux PATH=(custom, no user) ProcMaps: 08048000-08052000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2888613 /usr/sbin/cpufreqd 08052000-08053000 r--p 0000a000 08:01 2888613 /usr/sbin/cpufreqd 08053000-08054000 rw-p 0000b000 08:01 2888613 /usr/sbin/cpufreqd 0910c000-0912d000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 [heap] b757b000-b7596000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 791763 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 b7596000-b7597000 r--p 0001a000 08:01 791763 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 b7597000-b7598000 rw-p 0001b000 08:01 791763 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 b75b2000-b75b3000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 b75b3000-b7760000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 794350 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc-2.17.so b7760000-b7762000 r--p 001ad000 08:01 794350 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc-2.17.so b7762000-b7763000 rw-p 001af000 08:01 794350 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc-2.17.so b7763000-b7767000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 b7767000-b776c000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 2885352 /usr/lib/libcpufreq.so.0.0.0 b776c000-b776d000 r--p 00004000 08:01 2885352 /usr/lib/libcpufreq.so.0.0.0 b776d000-b776e000 rw-p 00005000 08:01 2885352 /usr/lib/libcpufreq.so.0.0.0 b776e000-b7771000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 795060 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl-2.17.so b7771000-b7772000 r--p 00002000 08:01 795060 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl-2.17.so b7772000-b7773000 rw-p 00003000 08:01 795060 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl-2.17.so b778c000-b778f000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 b778f000-b7790000 r-xp 00000000 00:00 0 [vdso] b7790000-b77b0000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 795076 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/ld-2.17.so b77b0000-b77b1000 r--p 0001f000 08:01 795076 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/ld-2.17.so b77b1000-b77b2000 rw-p 00020000 08:01 795076 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/ld-2.17.so bfaf7000-bfb18000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 [stack] ProcStatus: Name: cpufreqd State: S (sleeping) Tgid: 1257 Pid: 1257 PPid: 1237 TracerPid: 0 Uid: 0 0 0 0 Gid: 0 0 0 0 FDSize: 32 Groups: 0 VmPeak: 2484 kB VmSize: 2380 kB VmLck: 0 kB VmPin: 0 kB VmHWM: 524 kB VmRSS: 508 kB VmData: 168 kB VmStk: 136 kB VmExe: 40 kB VmLib: 1984 kB VmPTE: 20 kB VmSwap: 0 kB Threads: 1 SigQ: 0/15819 SigPnd: 0000000000000000 ShdPnd: 0000000000000000 SigBlk: 0000000000000000 SigIgn: 0000000000000000 SigCgt: 0000000000000000 CapInh: 0000000000000000 CapPrm: 0000001fffffffff CapEff: 0000001fffffffff CapBnd: 0000001fffffffff Seccomp: 0 Cpus_allowed: 3 Cpus_allowed_list: 0-1 Mems_allowed: 1 Mems_allowed_list: 0 voluntary_ctxt_switches: 2 nonvoluntary_ctxt_switches: 2 Signal: 6 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-19-generic i686 UserGroups: CoreDump: REMOVED ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 AssertionMessage: *** buffer overflow detected ***: /usr/sbin/cpufreqd terminated Dependencies: acpid 1:2.0.18-1ubuntu1 apt-utils 0.9.7.7ubuntu4 debconf 1.5.49ubuntu1 debconf-i18n 1.5.49ubuntu1 dpkg 1.16.10ubuntu1 gcc-4.7-base 4.7.3-1ubuntu1 kmod 9-3ubuntu1 libapt-inst1.5 0.9.7.7ubuntu4 libapt-pkg4.12 0.9.7.7ubuntu4 libbz2-1.0 1.0.6-4 libc6 2.17-0ubuntu5 libcpufreq0 008-1 libdb5.1 5.1.29-5ubuntu8 libgcc1 1:4.7.3-1ubuntu1 libkmod2 9-3ubuntu1 liblocale-gettext-perl 1.05-7build2 liblzma5 5.1.1alpha+20120614-2ubuntu1 libselinux1 2.1.9-5ubuntu1 libsensors4 1:3.3.2-2ubuntu1 libstdc++6 4.7.3-1ubuntu1 libsysfs2 2.1.0+repack-2 libtext-charwidth-perl 0.04-7build2 libtext-iconv-perl 1.7-5build1 libtext-wrapi18n-perl 0.06-7 libtinfo5 5.9-10ubuntu4 lsb-base 4.0-0ubuntu27 multiarch-support 2.17-0ubuntu5 ncurses-bin 5.9-10ubuntu4 perl-base 5.14.2-21 sed 4.2.1-10ubuntu2 tar 1.26+dfsg-5 zlib1g 1:1.2.7.dfsg-13ubuntu2 Disassembly: => 0xb778f424 <__kernel_vsyscall+16>: pop %ebp 0xb778f425 <__kernel_vsyscall+17>: pop %edx 0xb778f426 <__kernel_vsyscall+18>: pop %ecx 0xb778f427 <__kernel_vsyscall+19>: ret 0xb778f428: add %ch,(%esi) 0xb778f42a: jae 0xb778f494 0xb778f42c: jae 0xb778f4a2 0xb778f42e: jb 0xb778f4a4 0xb778f430: popa 0xb778f431: bound %eax,(%eax) 0xb778f433: cs 0xb778f434: push $0x687361 0xb778f439: cs 0xb778f43a: fs 0xb778f43b: jns 0xb778f4ab 0xb778f43d: jae 0xb778f4b8 HookError_ubuntu: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/report.py", line 197, in _run_hook symb['add_info'](report, ui) File "/usr/share/apport/general-hooks/ubuntu.py", line 92, in add_info apport.hookutils.attach_conffiles(report, package, ui=ui) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/hookutils.py", line 135, in attach_conffiles if contents == '[deleted]' or contents.startswith('[inaccessible'): TypeError: startswith first arg must be bytes or a tuple of bytes, not str InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-03-08 (420 days ago) InstallationMedia: Lubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" -
