Bug Description

When you search for a text (using Ctrl-F) which contains double quotes, the browser doesn't find if the text in the page uses left/right double quotes (“/”).

To give a more concrete example, see http://onthecommons.org/node/997. Search for "objective" (including the quotes). The browser will say "Phrase not found" even though the page contains the word "objective" between double-quotes, because they're uses left/right double quotes.

Thanks for your report.

Unfortunately I need more information. I have tried this on Firefox 2.0 in Edgy and hitting control-f and typing "objective" (including quotes) does find the word.

Changed in firefox:

status: Unconfirmed → Needs Info

I just tried it on Firefox 2.0.0.1 in Feisty, and doing exactly the same thing doesn't find the word (it does find it in this page, since it uses regular quotes, but not in the link above).

Yes, confirming this on Feisty 2.0.0.1

We may need to find more examples of this.

This does not work on other builds of Firefox because it opens up too many ideas of character parsing. Thanks for reporting.
