Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Need to add "si" (Sinhala) to the list of locales requiring Pango for
rendering. Sinhala is a South Asian script similar to Indic scripts.

At the moment a user will think Sinhala is not supported in Ubuntu's firefox because it does not render, whereas it will render correctly on firefox in other distros.

Even having installed the lklug font (in /usr/local/share/fonts), I'm not sure if I can reproduce the problem correctly. The only problem with the URL you gave is that it does not return a Content-Type indicating that the contents are encoded in UTF-8; if I select View -> Character Encoding -> Unicode (UTF-8), or use the copy at http://people.ubuntu.com/~cjwatson/tmp/icu-sinhala-rendering.txt which does return a correct Content-Type, then it seems to work fine.

The only difference I can see with and without your patch is that with it the Firefox menus, tabs, and status bar use the lklug font. This doesn't seem to be a release-critical problem.

Correction: without your patch, the Firefox menus, tabs, and status bar use the lklug font, whereas with it they use the font I normally see in locales other than si_LK.UTF-8.

Harshula clarified my confusion on IRC; I simply hadn't been looking closely enough. http://people.ubuntu.com/~cjwatson/tmp/sinhala-unpatched.png and http://people.ubuntu.com/~cjwatson/tmp/sinhala-patched.png demonstrate the differences; compare especially rows 11 to 16. Retargetting at ubuntu-6.10.

(Of course, I meant "enable", not "disable". Too late now. The code is correct.)
