Bug Description

Binary package hint: libnss3

libnss & libnss-dev security updates included with firefox update (March 1st, 2007) on Dapper Drake breaks Evolution mail client.

Here's the error message from terminal:

CalDAV Eplugin starting up ...

(evolution-2.6:6282): camel-WARNING **: Failed to initialize NSS

The workaround is:

$LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/firefox evolution &

Please address ASAP.

I also have Dapper Drake 6.06 Long Term Support installed. The Firefox update of March 1st does appear to be the culprit that caused major Evolution breakage in our ranks.

I get the same error as the original poster and the workaround does fix the problem. Though it is ugly.

Does anyone know how to wrap the workaround up in such away that it can be accessed from an icon or menu click?

Confirmed. Downgrading firefox libnss (and maybe libnspr) with synaptic is workaround. Since they were security updates I hope this will be fixed soon.

This looks like a duplicate of bug 56118

Is there anything to distinguish it?

Confirmed this.

Grrr . . . this update should never have got out of dapper-proposed.

I can confirm the "LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/firefox evolution &" workaround.

Same for me. Evolution, however, can be accesses via Firefox -> Tools -> Read Mail.

Rejected feisty and edgy tasks, and moved it to Dapper, as this is only a Dapper problem. Update will be published shortly.
