Bug Description
Binary package hint: fontconfig
After I upgraded ttf-opensymbols in edgy (edgy-updates I think). Fontconfig produced weird errors:

Google helped a bit:

(I did not find a ubuntu specific bugreport.)
I installed the version from feisty which fixed the problem:
# dpkg -i /tmp/fontconfig

The bug is in fontconfig. I fixed this by installing the latest fontconfig from Debian unstable (2.4.2-1).

so.....can we expect a fix to this bug or not?
there's a fix for the debian package, apparently - and I've had this issue on my (supposedly) stable install for over a month now.

I have had this bug also. Since this was very annoying that synaptic compains about errors with every update/
I could solve this by installing the debian unstable package as mentioned above.
For anyone other who has this problem and comes to this bug page, the following packages solved the problem for me:

http://
http://
download every .deb into a folder and install them via "dpkg -i *.deb" - thats it
btw: i think that should be solved since this error is there quite a while and it is already fixed (in debian - so why not in ubuntu ?!? )

Thanks for the tip, Michael! It worked for me. I had to "sudo apt-get upgrade" to finish the installation of some packages that were half-installed because of the fontconfig problems.

I have the same problem. I hope this get fixed soon. I will wait till ubuntu package get fixed. I am afraid that by installing Debian packages, I might break my system. I don't need more problems.

I fixed it by adding the feisty repository and upgrading fontconfig
I also updated fontconfig to feisty version and the problem is solved

Upgrading straight from the feisty repositories didn't work - apt-get tried to update everything else and would crash. Instead, downloading and installing using gdebi worked.

This bug has been fixed with the version of fontconfig shipped with Feisty, so I'm closing this bug.

You should not close this bug.
Edgy Eft, Version 6.10 Released October 26 2006, Supported until April 2008
Edgy is still supported and this bug was introduced in Edgy so there should be a fix for Edgy too.
The bug has been fixed at the time of reporting so nothing new here.

same bug here...
but i didn't find a way to install from festy package cus it has some dependencies from libc6 (version from festy)
