Logging out of Gnome from XDMCP session does not return to login screen

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

We have Ubuntu Edgy 6.10 installed with the latest updates. We use the LTSP package provided by Ubuntu. However instead of using LDM, I have enabled GDM's XDMCP logins and I've rigged the thin clients to use startx instead of ldm.

This all works great getting logged into the desktop session. We use LDAP authentication also. I am having a problem with authentication with the screensaver password lock only (another issue for another day).

When a user clicks the Red Log off button, then the Green "Log Out" button the screen goes to only the background image. Instead it should return to the GDM XDMCP login screen. This behavior can also be replicated from another machine using:
  vncserver :1 -query apps.nelfc.com -geometry 1280x1024 -depth 16

The desktop sets up properly, but once the user selects Log off -> Log Out the background image of the login screen is all that is seen.

Hi Joseph
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the development version of Ubuntu, Hardy Heron?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks.
Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to test this for another week.

Hi Joseph
No problem, please check against the latest version of Hardy, the beta or the stable release if you test it after the 24th or this month.

Thanks

I get the same problem using vncserver with the final release version of Hardy. Doing a logout in the session or doing a disconnect from the login screen will result it being stuck with just the background. A normal XDMCP session through Xnest does a clean disconnect/logoff .
