Bug Description
Binary package hint: konqueror
SMB and FTP sites that require user authentication cannot be accessed by entering the username and password in the authentication box that comes up when entering an smb or ftp url. The username has to be provided as part of the URL. It seems as the auth-box is messing up the values entered for username and password, as ftp-servers reply with an error message "please provide a password" although a password has been entered.

I cant confirm this (at least for ftp) with kde 3.5.3, kubuntu dapper.
Note that the username and password is case sensitive.
Could there be bad config files or something causing this? I've never seen this error reported before.

On my system the big difference is if I am using an fqdn or a plain IP address.
ftp://myserver.
ftp://192.
I checked the logs on the server (vsftpd): It actually logs in, but konqueror seems not to recognize that the login has happened. BTW: FTP console logins from the client machine are working well.
I have not tried with SMB so far.

@mark_orion
I am now rather confused by your last comment, you reported a bug with smb and ftp yet you seem to be saying that you haven't actually tried to use smb?
Please could you clarify.

I can confirm the behavior mark_orion described with FTP on dapper. However I have not tried it on Edgy and haven't used (or updated) Dapper in a while.
Thank you for your bug report. Do you still have this issue with the latest release of Ubuntu ?

Hi,
I just hit this bug with konqueror under an up-to-date feisty box : I tried to connect to an OVH ftp using just the ftp://ftp.
I finally tried to use the login name in the URL and it suddendly worked.
Thing is that it doesn't do that when I try to connect on another ftp with name/password on a French ISP (FREE)... I'm wondering what could cause this, but it seems it depends on the remote host ...
Cheers

I am prompted for a password if i access something like
smb://young/homes/
in Konqueror by typing it in the URI field, was this how you were trying?
Unfortunately I don't have any non-anonymous ftp servers to try ftp login on.
