Bug Description

I performed a clean edgy desktop installation, using the default English language.

Later I added Portuguese language support (using the Language Support application).

Then I initiated a Portuguese (UTF-8, not Brazilian) session.

Firefox comes up with Brazilian Portuguese (pt_br), not Portuguese (pt)

I check the installed language support packages and I only see mozilla-firefox-locale-pt-br

Are we missing a mozilla-firefox-locale-pt-pt here?

I added this one by mistake... I cannot figure out a way to remove it...

the mistake I mentioned above was for Baltix only... the bug does exist in firefox/ubuntu...

This is an upstream problem. There's no official pt-PT localization for Firefox 1.5. At http://firefox.ansol.org/ there's a XPI for pt-PT. If someone wants to build a community edition of Firefox in pt-PT, please contact me (I'm the responsible for the Firefox's pt-PT translation team, so we're allowed to do "community editions" of Firefox with the localization - and still keep the name).

Edgy comes with Firefox 2.0, which has official portuguese packages (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html).

The language pack for European Portuguese doesn't include the European Portuguese package for Firefox, but Brazilian Portuguese. As João stated, mozilla-firefox-locale-pt-pt doesn't exist.

Hello João,

Thank you for the bug report, can I get you to clarify the position of the mozilla-firefox-locale-pt-pt package? Is it working or are you still forced to use mozilla-firefox-locale-pt-br?

I have also changed the package to firefox-locale-all as this is not actually a Firefox bug.

Thanks again, Alex.

João Neves (jneves) wrote :

The package now exists for Edgy, but it's still in the universe repository. That means that a Portuguese user will not get it installed by default, right?

Thanks in advance, João Neves.

It's on main in feisty. :)

I asked on #ubuntu-devel and they said the best person to contact regarding this was either Martin Pitt or Ian Jackson, as Martin Pitt is already being notified of this, I am going to assign this bug to him to look over a bit more.

Thanks, Alex.

Fixed in Feisty. We cannot introduce new packages in stable releases, thus I close this.
