Bug Description

Binary package hint: totem

I was trying to play an .avi (x264) with 5.1 audio. Totem is configured to use stereo speakers, which would be right given it's a laptop. However I hear only part of the sound, I guess the front 2 speakers only. I've seen this problem with an oldschool xvid aswell, so I don't think the x264 codec is the problem.
Oh, and mplayer played the same file nicely in stereo, downsampled it perfectly to fit on this card.

Need any other info?

Thanks for your bug. What version of Ubuntu do you use? Do you use totem-gstreamer or totem-xine?

The last tests were on edgy, but I had dapper on the laptop 2 months ago and it was the same.
totem-gstreamer with all the -ffmpeg, -bad, -ugly, -multiverse etc plugins installed, maybe that helps.
Just for info, should surround sound work in dapper/edgy? I only had partial success so far, and that only with "mplayer -channel etc".

Marking unconfirmed, I've no surround setup to try, maybe somebody else have a config for that can pick on it and forward the bug upstream

Nor did I that time. That's why I reported the bug: only have 2 speakers and I didn't hear some speech at all. Can't confirm it right now on feisty since I don't have files with 5.1 audio ATM.

Okay I will do so, might take a while (need to get the alpha and find an appropriate media).
Oh and I'm on vacation next week aswell.
Thanks for the hint, will report back.
