I am also experiencing this. On daily AMD64 20070101 on a Compaq R3000z.

It occurred for me when I left free space when partitioning by hand assuming that I could use the space in the installer partitioner. When I created partitions to fill the free space, the problem went away.

So it appears that there is a bug in the handling of free space.

Arthur, your error does not sound like the same thing to me. Please file a new bug instead.

I suspect that no autopartitioning options are being presented. Robi, could you please run 'ubiquity --debug' from a terminal, reproduce this problem, and attach the resulting /var/log/syslog, /var/log/partman, and (importantly) /var/log/installer/debug to this bug report? Make sure to use a dummy password such as "test", as the password you select will appear in the debugging log files.

Z3r0, this bug has since been fixed in the repositories. Run `sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install debconf ubiquity` to get the fix before trying to install Herd2.

Later releases will also include the fix.

then, i partitioned by hand and without upgrade the ubiquity package, and now is working, but after of two or three attempts running the installer

is like the partitioner fail with free space on HD.

Francisco, that is likely to be another bug. Could you please reproduce it and file a new bug report, including of course all relevant log files? Thanks.

Using herd 2, I was able to work around this problem, by getting rid of
grub/MBR using:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=1024 count=1024

All other attempts including manually partitioning still resulted in the error.

Unfortunately, now I'm getting a different error much further into the install - but I'll file that in a seperate bug.

Vassilis,
i suposed that was the same error because the Traceback was equal, after I create the partitions by hand the installer continue without problems, i select the new partitions to install and all finish fine.

I will to reproduce the bug reinstalling again and will report if i found any difference with the report of the bug 76976
