Bug Description

While trying to do 'gksu "update-manager -c -d"' from dapper to edgy, I got the following error dialog:

"Could not calculate the upgrade

A unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the bugreport."

Requested files to follow.

These are the repositories that were active at the time of the upgrade (after update-manager had disabled the 3rd party repositories):

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu edgy main universe multiverse restricted
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu edgy-security main universe multiverse restricted
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu edgy-updates main universe multiverse restricted

It turns out I had versions of libgl1-mesa{,-dri} installed that were newer than what edgy itself provided (maybe I got them from a compiz repository?)

When I downgraded these from 6.5.1+cvs20060824 to 6.4.1-0ubuntu8 (dapper's latest), update-manager was able to proceed further to a dialog stating: "Do you want to start the upgrade?".

Thanks for your bugreport.

Did the upgrade went fine after the downgrade?

Thanks,
 Michael

For me, yes the upgrade went very smoothly once I'd taken care of the
downgrade.

Worked for me too. I needed to downgrade all mesa and compiz related
packages.

Thanks to all,
