Work around till solved: use sudo / gksudo.
Code:
gksudo update-manager

with the work around "I used the terminal, this time I was able to get the update ,but while updating a small black icon appeared. It said this could be for now or a update crash from the past. The update manager appeared clicked install update. The terminal gave a report of synaptic: 23018:) libglade -warning **: Error loading image : Failed to open file /usr/share/
