xine-lib does not play 24-bit wav files but plays loud noise

Bug #65594 reported by Stefan Bethge on 2006-10-12
Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
xine-lib (Ubuntu)

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xine-lib

Opening a 24-bit wav file (recorded with Traction on a mac) results in loud noise being played. Xmms, mplayer and gstreamer based players are doing fine. Audacity tells me it is a 32 bit file.

Could you please provide an example wav file?

Thanks for providing the example file. This bug is caused by the backend of Totem, in this case namely xine. The gstreamer version of Totem works fine (totem-gstreamer), so do all other gstreamer based applications and a few more.

This is not a real bug, instead it is a missing feature in Xine. We have
to wait for the xine developers to add such a feature.

For what it's worth, confirmed here too, and I'd like to see that feature added to xine-lib too ;-)

Perhaps this bug is related with Audacity's Bug #122098

Does this bug still happen in gutsy? It is claimed to be fixed in the upstream bugtracker.
